New categories for 2018 Jersey Director of the Year Awards

The Jersey Director of the Year Awards, launched by the Jersey branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD) this week, will feature a brand-new range of categories.

Nominations are now open for the 2018 Awards, which are in their ninth year and aim to identify the island’s top leaders across the private, public and voluntary sectors.

Once again supported by Gold Sponsor Appleby, who have been associated with the initiative since its inception, as well as Silver Sponsor HSBC, the Awards will include six new categories this year, with anyone able to submit a nomination online through the IoD Jersey’s simple and free web portal at

The deadline for entries is Friday 16th February, and all that is required to submit a nomination is a concise recommendation of up to 250 words. The categories this year include:

  • Director of the Year – Innovation
  • Director of the Year – Public/Third Sector
  • Director of the Year – Non-Exec
  • Director of the Year – New/Start-Up
  • Director of the Year – Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Chairman’s Award for Excellence in Leadership

More information on each category is available at

Following an independent and confidential judging process, the Awards will culminate in a black-tie dinner on Friday 27th April at the Hotel de France, designed to celebrate the achievements of shortlisted nominees and winners, as well as those who have successfully completed the most recent Chartered Director program.

Chris Clark, IoD Jersey Chairman, said: "After eight successful years, we decided to evolve our flagship awards initiative this year to better reflect excellent leadership, reward innovation, and celebrate the relationship between business and the local community. We’ve had some really outstanding entries over the years and I’d encourage anyone who has a good story to tell to consider a nomination. I’m also delighted that our long-term supporters Appleby continue to be our Gold Sponsor and that we can welcome back HSBC as our Silver Sponsor.”

Michael Cushing, Jersey Managing Partner at Gold Sponsor Appleby, added: “It has always been a key focus for Appleby to encourage and recognise strong leadership in the local community, and with that in mind we are delighted to be able to support these unique awards once again. In an increasingly complex world, the modern leader has to demonstrate a range of capabilities and it’s right that these awards should evolve in line with that.”
