Deadline for 2017 IoD Work Shadow Scheme

Students in Jersey wishing to take part in this year’s IoD Jersey Work Shadow Scheme have until the end of this month to submit their application.

The Scheme, which is sponsored by KPMG Channel Islands and supported by Careers Jersey, celebrated its 30th anniversary last year and allows Sixth Form students to spend one week ‘shadowing’ a director or senior manager, usually during the summer break, to get a taste for a business career.

To apply for the scheme, students are required to submit by post or email to Careers Jersey a formal application letter accompanied by their CV, with the deadline for applications this year being 5pm on Sunday 30th April 2017.

All applications will be assessed by a panel of professional business representatives and students are then interviewed and receive feedback on their personal presentation and application paperwork. Those students considered suitable by the interview panel are then offered a shadowing role.

Last year, 53 students took part in the scheme, shadowing managers at a range of organisations, across the public, retail, construction, cultural, financial and legal sectors. The overall prize was awarded to Jessica Toudic from Hautlieu School, who shadowed Duncan Gibaut in the Chief Minister’s Department, at a special presentation evening in November.

Shelley Kendrick, Chair of the IoD Jersey Work Shadow Scheme, said:

“Whether a student is considering a career in health, politics, marketing, education, finance, or perhaps even zoology, the IoD Jersey Work Shadow Scheme offers a really unique opportunity to gain some hugely valuable experience from the most senior people in the island across a broad range of sectors. There is also a cash prize for the top three winning reports submitted at the end of the scheme. I fully expect this year’s program to be well subscribed once again, and would encourage students to get their application in in good time.”
