Nominations open for 2015 Director of the Year and new sponsor signs up

The Jersey branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD) has launched its sixth annual search to find the top business leaders in Jersey’s private, public and voluntary sectors.

The 2015 Director of the Year Awards, sponsored by long-term supporters Appleby and new sponsor Airtel-Vodafone, will return to the Hotel de France this year, culminating in a black tie awards dinner that will celebrate the achievements of shortlisted nominees and winners on Friday 24 April.

Nominations for the Awards can be made online via the IoD’s new website at www.iod.je and are open until Friday 13 February. Anyone can submit a nomination and nominees do not have to be members of the IoD, they simply need to demonstrate the qualities sought by the IoD under each award category.

The online nomination process requires a concise recommendation of up to 250 words outlining key achievements, with successful shortlisted nominees being subsequently interviewed in more depth by an independent judging panel. For the purposes of the Awards, a ‘Director’ can include anyone that has the strategic responsibilities of a Director but does not necessarily carry the specific job title of ‘Director’.

There are seven categories for 2015, including a new award that will recognise the best performer on the latest Chartered Director course:

  • Director of the Year for a Small Organisation (less than 10 employees)
  • Director of the Year for a Medium Organisation (11-100 employees)
  • Director of the Year for a Large Organisation (100+ employees)
  • Young Director of the Year
  • Public/Third Sector Director of the Year
  • Global Director of the Year
  • Chartered Director of the Year

Winners of the Jersey Director of the Year Awards are automatically put forward for the National version of the Awards and Jersey has an excellent record to date, with four previous local winners (Richard Rolfe in 2011, Eliot Lincoln in 2012, Eamonn Elliott in 2013 and John McGuinness in 2014) going on to win their categories in the national finals, generating fantastic recognition for themselves, their employers and the Island.

Wendy Dorman, IoD Jersey branch Chairman, said:

"The Jersey Director of the Year Awards have really established themselves as a key fixture in the business calendar. I am delighted to welcome on board Airtel-Vodafone as a new sponsor for 2015 and would also like to thank Appleby, who have supported the awards since their inception.  The Awards are all about recognising and celebrating the skill and leadership needed to steer local organisations of all types to success and I would strongly encourage people to take a few minutes to visit our website and nominate someone they know has made a real difference through their ability, dedication and hard work."

More details about the Awards, including the judging panel and guest speaker, will be announced in due course.
